Happy 1st

Today is this blog 1st birthday, people! hehehe.

But of course, 1 year ago, this blog is known as "When Life Gives Lemons, Make Lemonade" or something like that. haha.. now it sounded too cheesy. LOL. Click here for the first post.

But then I changed the name again to "Definitely Me". How cheesy can it be?? hahaha.

After two names, I still didn't feel like it's mine.. you know? Then one day, I can't remember how, "What's up with J?" came to mind and then it felt like home in this heart of mine. I didn't remember when I changed the blog name though. I tried searching if I mentioned in the posts but can't find it. Never mind.

A year with 243 posts. I talked a lot with you all lah! haha.

Anyway, I love this blog, it is about my life and thank you for those of you who visited.

Reason to celebrate? Of course! Probably going to celebrate with what's up with J?'s older sis "When I Start Telling Stories" who turned 1 on 16th October 2009.

Love ya'll!!!!

Look at this Chocolate Cream Cake, doesn't it look super delish? I watched French Food at Home with Laura Calder on AFC last weekend and loved that little flower deco, waayyy to sweet right? Yeah yeah, I am an easily pleased person. Ain, Chot & Zati would love this confession. right? hahaha. Try the recipe here. Btw, anybody know the substitute for the cognac/rum?

Have a good day ya'll!!

Haven't Met You Yet

To the love of my life, this sweet song is for you :)

Haven't Met You Yet - Michael Buble

I'm Not Surprised
Not Everything Lasts
I've Broken My Heart So Many Times
I Stopped Keeping Track
I Talk Myself In
I Talk Myself Out
I Get All Worked Up Then I Let Myself Down.

I Tried So Very Hard Not To Loose It,
I Came Up With A Million Excuses,
I thought I thought of Every Possibility.

And I know someday That It’ll All Turn Out
You’ll Make Me Work So We Can Work To Work It Out
And I Promise You Kid That I’ll Give So Much More Than I Get
I Just Haven't Met You Yet

I Might Have To Wait
I’ll Never Give Up
I Guess It's Half Timing
And The Other's Half’s Luck
Wherever You Are
Whenever It's Right
You’ll Come Out Of Nowhere And Into My Life

And I Know That We Can Be So Amazing
And Baby Your Love Is Gonna Change Me
And Now I Can See Every Possibility

And I know Someday That it’ll all Turn Out
You’ll Make Me Work So We Can Work To Work It Out
And I Promise You Kid I’ll Give So Much More Than I Get
I Just Haven't Met You Yet

They Say All’s Fair
In Love And War
But I Won't Need To Fight It
We’ll Get It Right
We’ll Be United

And I Know That We Can Be So Amazing
And Being In Your Life Is Gonna Change Me
And Now I Can See Every Single Possibility

And Someday I Know It’ll All Turn Out
And I’ll Work To Work It Out
Promise You Kid I’ll Give More Than I Get
Than I Get
Than I Get
Than I Get

Oh You Know That Will All Turn Out
And You’ll Make Me Work So We Can Work To Work It Out
And I Promise You Kid To Give So Much More Than I Get
Yeah I Just Haven't Met You Yet

I Just Haven't Met You Yet
Oh Promise You Kid
To Give So Much More Than I Get

I Said Love Love Love Love Love Love Love .....
I Just Haven't Met You Yet
Love Love Love .....
I Just Haven't Met You Yet

Miss J's Bread Pudding & Peach Custard Sauce

Since everybody likes my bread pudding, I just thought to share the recipe to spread the loveeeeeee to the people I love.. yeah that's you :P

I think everyone has their own recipe in making bread pudding. My mom's version is a moist, soggy type because the bread are soaked in water or milk and then we squeezed the liquid out of bread and the bread became sort of like "mashed". It is very easy to make and take not time at all and tasted quite good, but I am not a fan of the soggy type.

Then, one day, Kak Tine brought home this one bread pudding recipe. She was the one that made the pudding first but I think the recipe used too little bread in the recipe, making it a little bit thin and flat. I then, adjust the recipe a little bit, and I think it turned out quite alright and everybody seems to like it.

Bread Pudding

10 slices of bread of your choice, cut in 4 triangles
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup of caster sugar
5 medium size egss
2 cups of fresh milk
Raisins, almonds (whole, flaked, slivers - up to you but i like flakes best), chocolate chips for decorations and layers - as much as u need for the layers/decoration
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
Some icing sugar for deco

Place a layer of cut bread in the baking dish, then drizzle some of the melted butter, make sure to cover a little bit of each piece of bread. You don't need much tho just enough to have butter on th bread. Then layer it with raisins, almond and chocolate chips. Do it again, until you have all the bread in the baking dish.

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla essence until all mixed up. I sometimes add a little bit of baking powder, about a teaspoon to make it fluffier. Then pour into the baking dish, making sure the bread are all soaked up with the eggs and milk mixture. Push down the bread with a spoon or fork to make sure the eggs mixture covered the top part.

Once ready, put it in a 180 degree celcius oven, for about 30 minutes, adjust if necessary, and bake until the top is golden brown and the cake tester turn out clean and dry.

Once a little bit cool, put a little icing sugar in a sift and sift the sugar on top of the pudding.

There you go. :)

But of course, a bread pudding won't be complete with its custard sauce. To me, the sauce is what makes it different. You may have a bland tasting pudding but if you have a really good custard, everything seems to turn out right hehehe.

My version has peach in it, because I love the taste of peach, but of course you can have it plain or with any other fruits of your choice. Of plain, just add more sugar as you don't have the fruit syrup in it.

Peach Vanilla Custard Sauce

1 can of evaporated milk
3 cups of fresh milk
3-5 tablespoons of custard powder (adjust accordingly)
1 can of peach (cut in small cubes) - keep the syrup
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
1/4 - 1/2 cup caster sugar (again, adjust accordingly)

Boil the evaporated milk, fresh milk, syrup, vanilla essence in pot. Let it warm up and taste the mixture, if it is not sweet as you like, add some sugar, until you get the sweetness you desire. For me I don't like it to be too sweet, so I think about 1/4 - 1/2 cup is enough. In a small bowl/cup, mix the custard powder with a little bit of water, just enough to make mix the powder. Then, once the milk mixture is warm and about to come up to a boil, pour in the custard mixture and keep the fire low. Mix a little bit of the custard first, maybe about 3 tablespoons, and don't stop stirring. Make sure that once you pour in the custard mixture, the fire must be low and don't stop stirring or it will burnt at the bottom and you don't wan the burnt taste. Sooo not nice! hehe. Adjust the custard accordingly, until you reach a slightly thicken milk mixture. If it is too thick, add more milk or water, and adjust the sweetness too. The custard is ready when you can't taste the flour taste in the mixture. Pour in the cut peaches and leave it for few minutes and turn off the heat.

You can have the bread pudding and sauce warm, or cold. I think everyone has their own favourite way of having it. Mine? Slightly warm pudding, with cold sauce (so if you want this, make the sauce in advance). I just love the contrast between the warm melting butter pudding and then with the cold creamy sauce. And if you like, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Sinful! :)

Enjoy your pudding!!

Just Be There

Do you know how is it like when you are feeling down and you don't know the reason why. When people asked you what is wrong with you, you just don't know what to say to them? You can't point out what makes you down, but you are feeling it anyway.

Then people came to you and asked, if you are ready to talk, they'll be there for you.

Doesn't that makes you want to cry?

I cried.

And then, you met them or in contact with them and suddenly you feel that you don't need to talk about those unpleasant feelings that made you feel down anymore, because being with them and know that they are there for you is enough to make you feel better and well, think that better days are ahead of you.

I am thankful that I have people like that in my life. I love you all.

I was thinking of writing a rather emotional post, depicting my current mood and state of mind.

But as I was trying to type the words, my brain keeps telling me, nahh don't do it, it will pass. Try to write something fun!

So I turned to my fave new show of the season, Glee.

If you don't know anything about Glee, read all about it here.

Glee is funny, over the top (sometimes we do need some OTT), quirky, but the best thing about the show I like the most are the performances of course. The cast has amazing voices, awesome music arrangement, all the get up, I just love them. Music and beautiful things always makes me happy. Well, sometimes. heheh.

I can't even choose one clip to say my favourite. They are all good! Hmm among my faves - Halo/Walking on Sunshine mash up, It's My Life/Confession mashup, Take A Bow, I Wanna Sex You Up. Oh, just search videos on youtube, and look out for Glee, and enjoy! And oh yeah, just so you know, I found out about Glee after watching Sam Tsui's cover on one of the songs in Glee. Click here for the vid. Who is Sam Tsui? Another search you have to do, and you have to see this vid. That was the first time seeing Sam Tsui and I didn't even remember how I got there, just one of my vid hopping but I sure did glad to see the vid. Great talent eh?

There are so many talented people out there. *sigh* I wish I am one of them, so I won't be stuck here doing something I am not too sure I am into. Ooopps, so not getting into that.

And, I can't wait for next episode... No Air and Avril's Keep Holding On? Should be good!! Click here for preview.

That being said, this is not working and I am still feeling a lil bit down, a lil bit emotional, a lil bit miserable, a lil bit lonely. *sigh*

Oh well, don't mind me, hope you'll have a great week darlings! *muah*

Missing Bubuk

My darling bubuk is down with chicken pox.

The doctor gave her 5 days MC.

From my recent text with her, it seems that the pox situation is pretty bad. She said she is feeling very weak, itchy all over, pain in the whole body, and the pox is everywhere on her body including the sole of her feet, in the mouth .

Awwww... I wish I could do something. I asked her if it is okay to visit, but she said no, the doc said it is contagious. She was asked to stay indoor, to avoid infecting other people.

Darling bubuk, be strong, ok? Have a good rest, drink lots of water, take your meds.

I pray for your speedy recovery.. ANDDDDDD

Love ya girl!

p/s: pantang elok2 tau.. so that no scars!

I am Engaged!

NOT! haha.

Last night I dreamt of my engagement ceremony.

To a guy I have a crush on right now. kihkih.

Maybe because I just saw his photo wearing his baju melayu and sampin.

In the dream, me and him was not even dating.. it just that both of us like each other and then decided to get married. hahah. I even asked him in the dream, why suddenly he sent his rombongan to merisik. He said, well, I have always like you and why wait? HAHAHAHAHA. Weirdo.

And oh yeah, in the dream, the wedding will be in a month later.

Oh well.. so not going to happen because the guy is taken and about to get married.

Love his smile though *wink*

The Adventure of the Red Velvet & Coconut Lime Cakes

I am not really a cake person. I don't really eat cakes and I don't really like to bake cakes. I am a cooking person and a savoury person. So making desserts are not my forte.

HOWEVER, I like beautiful and unique things and I like to try new things. Although earlier I said I don't to like to bake cakes, I have baked quite a few numbers of cake in my lifetime. hehee.

So anyway, when I saw my friend Mas made this beautiful cake, I was sooooo inspired and excited to try making this beautiful art.

I was so intimidated to try making this cake because the ingredients in the cake are not something I am familiar with in baking cakes such as buttermilk, vinegar and 2 ounces of red colouring!! Mas has asked me few times when I am going to make this cake and gave me the encouragement but I was still doubting myself. heheh.

Then, as I was browsing through blogs, I found this post and seriously, it changed my view and give me the courage to try making this cake. The cake is GORGEOUS and I wanna cry just looking at the contrast between the cream of the cream cheese frosting and the deep red of the cake. I thought to myself, it's ok, if it didn't turn out well, at least I can say that I have tried. Oh btw, I never even tasted a red velvet cake before. It's not really some cake you just buy in any bakery. I think you may find it in up scale cafes. I think I saw in the Apartment menu and Cupcake Chic also sells them.

I decided to make the cake for my Eid open house on Saturday and I took half day leave the day before just to prepare this cake. I also decided to make this Coconut Lime Cake, which I also took from Pinch My Salt. Seriously this blog has become one of my fave blogs, not only it has good recipes (with good story to go with it) and easy to understand instructions, but also amazing photography.

So my adventure begins on late Friday afternoon. At the time I was making the Red Velvet batter, I didn't have buttermilk with me, so I already searched the substitute. Since buttermilk is pretty hard to find in local supermarkets, then the substitute will make do. To replace 1 cup of buttermilk, use a tablespoon of vinegar (or some says can use lemon juice as well) and then pour ordinary milk into the cup to make one cup.

I was so nervous and excited at the same time to make the cake, and yes, red colouring seems to be everywhere. Hahaha. I even used a plastic glove so I won't stain my hand, but still there were some stain on my fingers and hand. hihi.

As I nervously opened the oven to see the result, I was a little bit sad and frustrated because the cake seem flat and not as red. It has this dark brown tint on the surface, but then again, of course, that the top, right?? When Kak Tine (my sis in law), cut the top of the cake to make it even for frosting (I asked her to make the frosting because she is neater than me and kinda pro in making frosting - yes, credit for the frosting goes to her), we can see the deep red cake. We were so excited that the cake turn out to be fluffy, tasty and lovely red! YEAY!

See how red it is!!
Cake in the fridge
Decorated with raspberries and black berries.

Then I also baked the coconut lime cake, but of course it wasn't as intimidating as the red velvet cake because I have made coconut cake before, but this time I used the recipe I found in Pinch My Salt. I followed her recipe exactly except for the frosting (I asked Kak Tine to help of course), I covered the cake with butter cream frosting from here and then covered it with dessicated coconut. I think the cake tasted really good, pretty fancy I think. hehehe. And oh yeah, the cake is small, so if you want to make layers, you have to make 2 recipes. I also used fresh shredded coconut in the batter.

Frosting time.
Covered with butter cream icing, with dessicated coconut and few lime zest as deco ;P

During the open house, everybody was so delighted and in awe (haahaha perasan) to see the cake because I don't think you can see red cakes everyday, and the cake was polished off so quickly. The coconut lime cake was also delicious and soft, it has this tangy lime flavour in contrast of the richness taste of the coconut. I am so happy the cakes turn out so well and that everybody enjoyed it.

Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese frosting and Coconut Lime Cake with Butter Cream frosting - a combined effort of myself & my sis in law Tine.

I AM SO HAPPY! hhehehe.

For those who came for the open house, THANK YOU!!!

My Little Chef Crush

For those of you who don't know me, I am a big fan of the food/travel/cooking shows... well.. basically because I love food, I love to see beautiful things and I love to cook.

So it's no surprise that I listed Jamie Oliver, Chef Michael Smith, Nigella Lawson, Kylie Kwong, David Rocco, Delia Smith, Curtis Stone, etc as my favourites people to watch.

However, recently I came across this show on Astro.. I am not sure if it is on AFC (Channel 703) or Travel & Living (Channel 707).. called Cooking It and I was crushed almost instantly.... LOL

Meet Chef Jun Tanaka

Japanese look with sexy soft spoken polite British accent.

I can watch him cook all day long. HAHAHAHAHAH. who would have though chopping chillis can be so sexy? LOL! And thanks to this website, we can see him anytime we want.

I just love men who can cook (and plus, with mata sepet and a little pony tail and sexy accent) hahahaha

Owh.. just let me dream for awhile... hehehe
